The challenge
Stationery has equipped schools, offices, and creative studios for over 30 years. Their catalog is massive — school supplies, office stationery, technology, printing solutions, art materials, craft kits, personalised gifts — and their audiences are radically different: parents shopping for back-to-school season, students hunting for affordable supplies, and B2B buyers who need fast, invoiced, bulk orders.
Their previous digital presence didn’t reflect that scale, and it treated every visitor the same way. A parent buying 3 notebooks for their child landed on the same page as a procurement manager ordering 200 pens for a company. The experience was functional — but flat. No joy, no personality, no clear path for each audience.
The challenge was threefold: build a custom theme from scratch (100% bespoke code, no page builder), create a genuinely playful shopping experience that stands out in the stationery category, and offer clear, distinct paths for three very different customer types.
Our approach
We started with a full audit of their catalog, their traffic patterns, and their three core audiences. Then we built a custom WordPress theme, coded entirely from scratch, designed around one idea: shopping for stationery should feel light and enjoyable, not transactional.
The design language is bold and colorful — bright blue as the primary brand color, punchy pink accents for promotions, and a structured, friendly layout that speaks to both kids and professionals. It’s a departure from the standard “corporate retail” look — closer to a modern D2C brand than a traditional stationery chain.
We built three distinct navigation paths to serve each audience:
- Parents & students — Category-first browsing (art supplies, craft kits, paint, stylish stationery) with fast, playful product discovery.
- B2B buyers — A dedicated BizRewards program with corporate pricing, bulk ordering, and invoicing built into the customer account.
- Click & Collect users — Real-time stock availability per store, with the ability to reserve online and pick up in minutes.
The homepage opens with a rotating promotional carousel — deals, print & photo, office products, copy paper — so the brand feels alive every time someone visits. Below it, curated category blocks, seasonal campaigns, and a very clear “current store hours” banner that ties the digital and physical experience together.
On the technical side, the theme is fast, mobile-first, and optimized for retail SEO. Product schema, breadcrumbs, and category structured data help the site rank for thousands of long-tail queries: “school supplies near me”, “cheap notebooks”, “office printing paper bulk”, etc. Every product page offers a clear path to checkout, Click & Collect, or a quote request for B2B clients.
We also integrated the store locator, the loyalty program, and the customer account system — all connected to the same database, so a B2B client, a parent, and a student each get a personalised experience based on their profile.
